Supporting Health Care and Planned Parenthood

You would think that supporting women's health care, things like PAP tests and breast cancer screenings would be like supporting motherhood and apple pie. Supporting planned parenthood is - literally - supporting motherhood.

You would think that the Governor, the Senate, and the General Assembly, would ensure that we all all have access to life-saving preventive health care including cancer and hypertension screenings. For women this includes birth control, breast health services, Pap tests and other preventive health care. 

Well, the Senate and the General Assembly support these health care services. However, Governor Chris Christie eliminated $7.4 million in funding for these services, including breast exams and PAP tests. He has vetoed four separate attempts by the Legislature to restore funding and refused to apply for federal funding for women’s health programs even though this funding has been estimated to save the state more than $43 million.

The Governor's actions are misguided and immoral. And refusing to apply for federal funding is irresponsible.
