Cause Of School Bus Fire In Manalapan Remains Under Investigation

Three school buses, parked at a bus depot at a Manalapan elementary school, were damaged in an early morning fire this week.

Three school buses were damaged in an early morning fire this week, Manalapan police said.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Property damage was limited to the buses.

Just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, the building supervisor at Wemrock Brook School called police. That supervisor reported arriving at work and finding buses on fire in the bus depot, according to a news release from Deputy Police Chief Michael Fountain.

When officers arrived at the school on Millhurst Road, two of the “buses were engulfed in flames and a third was beginning to sustain secondary damage,” police said.

Firefighters from Manalapan, Englishtown and Gordon’s Corner fire companies extinguished the flames. The Monroe First Aid Squad also responded as a precaution.

Detective Dominick Donatelli, the Manalapan Fire Marshal and Monmouth County Fire Marshal are investigating. Patrol Officer Jennie Hensley handled the initial report.
