Driver Dies in Crash Just South of Freehold Raceway Mall

Driver suffers medical episode in car, sends car careening across four lanes of Rt. 9.

Freehold, NJ - A driver suffered a fatal medical episode Wednesday afternoon on Rt. 9 just south of the Freehold Raceway Mall, which sent his car careening across four lanes of busy traffic and into a pole, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The driver was at a red light at the intersection of Rt. 9 South and Rt. 524 (also known as Elton-Adelphia Road) when he suffered the medical episode, the Press reports. His foot hit the accelerator, sending the car across four lanes of traffic and into a Department of Transportation pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and there were no further injuries.
