Drunk Man Speeds Away From Manalapan Police, Officer Says
The incident started at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 on Gordon's Corner Road near Pease Road. The man was initially stopped for speeding.

MANALAPAN, NJ — An allegedly drunk man sped away from police at a high rate of speed after an officer tried to pull him over Friday night on Gordon’s Corner Road.
The officer did not chase him, since he had already established the driver's identity, police said. Instead, he went to his mother's house in Monroe Township and arrested the 49-year-old Englishtown man.
The incident started at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 on Gordon’s Corner Road, in the area of Pease Road. Patrolman Eric Voorand pulled the car over for several motor vehicle violations, including speeding, passing in a no-passing zone and having an open container of alcohol. The driver initially stopped, but then fled at a very high rate of speed.

Officer Voorand decided not to chase him, as he had the license plate of the car. Instead, he went to the suspect's mother's home in Monroe Twp., where Michael M. Kerins, 49, was arrested.
Kerins was charged with eluding, DWI, having an open container, reckless driving, speeding, failure to maintain lanes, passing in a no-passing zone, obstructing a roadway and failure to exhibit registration, among other charges.
