Openness in Adoptions

Educational Adoption Program: When adoptees seek their birth families, we generally think of people in their 20s and 30s.  How about adoptees over 50? Legislation is currently being debated in several states that would provide access to records for adopted citizens. 

Opponents argue birth mothers were promised confidentiality, while supporters point out there is no statutory guarantee of privacy.  As the debate continues, adoptees and birth parents are dying without closure regarding one of the most significant events of their lives.

View clips from the award winning film by Author and Adoptee Jean Strauss, "Adopted: For the Life of Me," followed by a Panel Discussion comprised of professionals involved with adoption, adoptive parents, birth mothers and adoptees.  Moderated by an adult adoptee, the discussion will center on the impact of secrets in closed adoptions in America.  Audience participation is encouraged.
