Fraud, Harassment, Theft Of Property: Manalapan Police Blotter

Manalapan Police reported four incidents of fraud from Oct. 15 through Oct. 21.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Manalapan Police reported incidents of fraud, harassment, theft of property and more from Oct. 15 through Oct. 21.

Oct. 15
Around 10:30 p.m., a 27-year-old Manalapan resident alleged that their housekeeper stole $10,900 in cash from their home.

A Manalapan resident reported that they were being harassed by a neighbor. The suspect was upset over a zoning dispute and the dispute has been an ongoing issue. The victim was advised of the procedure to sign complaints.

Oct. 17
An 82-year-old Manalapan resident received a call from an unknown number claiming they owed money and requested the victim to deposit $1,700 into a Bitcoin machine. The victim is at a $1,700 monetary loss.

A 60-year-old Manalapan business owner reported that their used cooking oil was stolen from their restaurant. The total value is unknown.

A 39-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they were a victim of fraud. The victim said that they were offered employment that required them to purchase equipment. The victim made a payment to the company for the equipment and received a check from the company to cover the cost, but the check was later found to be fraudulent. The victim is at a monetary loss of $4,820.

An 86-year-old Manalapan resident reported receiving a fraudulent phone call. The caller requested that $14,000 in cash be withdrawn at a local bank and be handed over in reference to a hoax Citi Bank hacking incident. The resident did not turn over any cash and is currently at no monetary loss.

Around 9 p.m., Patrolman James Guarino conducted a motor vehicle stop on U.S. Highway 9 South for observed motor vehicle violations. A subsequent investigation determined that the driver of the vehicle was driving while intoxicated. The driver was arrested and brought to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters to be processed, before they were later released on a summons to appear in municipal court.

Oct. 21
A 53-year-old Manalapan resident reported that an alleged online cryptocurrency business used manipulation tactics to defraud them of $33,750. The fraud involved the opening of a crypto account and crypto trades.
