John I. Dawes Early Learning Center March Highlights
Students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday, learned about character from Cindy the Citizen Crab, purchased new books at a PTA sponsored book fair.

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.
Character Education
The continued its “Paws-itive Behavior Program.” Mrs. Young, the guidance counselor, held mini-assemblies to introduce the kindergarten students to the ELC’s fifth character critter. The students met Cindy the Citizen Crab and listened to a story about her. The children learned that being caring includes the following:
- Cooperate.
- Follow the rules.
- Respect people in charge.
- Do not litter.
Posters of Cindy the Citizen Crab and the list of responsible traits are hung around the school. All staff members are reinforcing this trait, and the students are so excited to wear the paw print stickers they receive when they are caught being responsible. We will introduce the next character critter in April.

March Activities
March was a busy month at the ELC! We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with an assembly full of songs and movement. The Cat in the Hat even made a surprise visit! The PTA sponsored a book fair for the school, and the children enjoyed shopping for some new books. Monthly birthday celebrations were held as well, and school spirit days continued.
Conferences
Spring conferences were held this month, and as usual, the building was bustling. Conferences are an important part of the home-school connection, and we appreciate all of our concerned and involved parents!
