John I. Dawes Early Learning Center May Highlights
Students learned good citizen traits from Fran the Frog and about bullying from puppets!

The following highlights are submitted by Irene Policastro, the Secretary to Superintendent John J. Marciante of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.
Character Education
The continued its “Paws-itive Behavior Program.” Mrs. Young, the guidance counselor, held mini-assemblies to introduce the kindergarten students to the ELC’s final character critter. The students met Fran the Fair Frog and listened to a story about her. The children learned that being fair includes the following:

- Knowing and following the rules.
- Listening to friends and family.
- Sharing with everyone.
- Not blaming others.
Posters of Fran the Fair Frog and the list of good citizen traits are hung around the school. All staff members are reinforcing this trait, and the students are so excited to wear the paw print stickers they receive when they are caught being fair. We are very proud of our students!

The PTA sponsored “The Kids on the Block Assembly” for kindergarten which dealt with teasing and bullying through the use of puppets. The PTA also provided a “Wacky Science” assembly for the school. The children enjoyed both assemblies and learned a lot! Monthly birthday celebrations were also held, and school spirit days continued.
