We, as a community, need to really open our eyes here! We need to stop saying that this cannot happen to me, this cannot be my child. It is happening to us, and it is our children. This pandemic of drug usage, overdosing, selling, buying, etc. is happening all around us. The problem here is mostly ignorance. Parents think that their "children won't do this", "can't be involved", "too smart for that", "my kid plays sports", etc. Truth of the matter is, they all see it happening, they might not all be doing it, but the fact is that they know what is happening. If they don't make the right decisions, it won't be too long before they are knee deep in it with no way out. We need to educate our children before they make the wrong decisions, we also need to educate ourselves! A couple months back, the prosecutor's office gave a free educational seminar on drug usage, statistics, etc. They had some really good speakers, maybe only 100 people came, maybe 100! That itself is a sin. We, as parents, need to do whatever we need to do to protect our children, we need to stop drinking in front of them, stop drinking and driving in front of them, watch what they are doing, check their computers once in a while, find out who they are hanging out with. We need to stop turning a blind eye to their lives and get involved. Stop being the person that believes it will never happen to them, because it can, and it will. Over 100 overdoses last year alone in Ocean county, Monmouth county had over 90! We can make a difference and we can change those numbers, but we all have to do it together. Educate yourself, be aware, get involved. We need to show the young kids the harsh reality of what will happen if they make a wrong decision. This has to stop!
