Manalapan Area Gets 3 New Fire Fighters

Stephen Haines is Manalapan's newest volunteer fire fighter; Michael Giacona joins Gordons Corner and Vincent Curreri joins Englishtown.

Manalapan, NJ - Michael S. Giacona became the newest member of Gordon’s Corner Fire Company in Manalapan this month, and Stephen T. Haines joined the Manalapan Fire Department.

Vincent J. Curreri joined the Englishtown Fire Department.

The three men were part of the 39 firefighters who graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy on Rt. 33 last week. The first-time firefighter graduates were divided into two classes: Class 108 graduated Jan. 26 and Class 109 graduated Jan. 27.

A graduate from each class earned the Ronald Fitzpatrick Award, named for a former instructor at the Fire Academy who died in the line of duty in 2003.

One of the awards went to Giacona, Class 109, of Gordon’s Corner Fire Company in Manalapan. Giacone received the highest test score and attendance record of his class.

In order to graduate, firefighters had to log 188 hours over 30 sessions. They received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and electrical safety.
