MANALAPAN, NJ — A Manalapan man was killed this weekend in a fatal crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. Rene Melendez Jr., 36, of Manalapan was driving a Ford van at 4:39 p.m. when he passed through the Interchange 14 toll plaza at the New Jersey Turnpike and crashed soon afterward, police said. Melendez struck a guardrail between Interstate 78 local and express lanes, police said. He was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m., police said.
