MANALAPAN, NJ-- An elderly Manalapan man in a wheelchair was hit by a car, police say. It was unclear why the man was in the street at the time of the accident.The 69-year-old was crossing the road in an electric powered wheelchair in Manalapan when he was struck by a driver in a midsized car. The accident happened around 4:30 on Sept. 12 on Gordon's Corner Road near Saratoga Drive.He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment for his injuries. The driver, a 63-year-old man, did not report any injuries. The westbound lane of Gordon's Corner Road was closed for about five hours as a result of the crash.No summonses have been issued pending the outcome of an investigation into the crash, led by the Manalapan Township Traffic Safety Unit.Police ask that anyone who witnessed the accident contact Patrolman Dennis O'Brien at (732)-446-4300.
