Manalapan Woman Loses Money in IRS Scam
One local woman fell for it, and lost more than $1,000 in the process

Manalapan, NJ - Ever scoff and think, "Nobody would fall for that!," when hearing about IRS/Moneygram scams?
While, one local woman did fall for it, and she lost more than $1,000 in the process, Manalapan police say.
The woman, a 53-year-old Manalapan resident, said she received a phone call on March 14 from a man claiming to be with the IRS. He told her that she owed back taxes. The man stayed on the phone with the woman while she withdrew money from her bank account, and sent the cash via MoneyGram at one of the two CVS stores in Manalapan.

She sent to the money to a “Judy Martinez” in Maryland, she later told police, after realizing she'd been scammed. The proceeds were $1,132.13. Patrolman Mark Casagrande is handling the investigation.
The IRS will never call you; they always send mail via the U.S. Postal Service to collect back taxes.
