MANALAPAN, NJ – Doorside pickup will be available at the Monmouth County Headquarters Library in Manalapan and the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury from from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The book drops at both locations are currently open. As a precautionary measure, all returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before they are returned to the shelves. Library patrons will be able to reserve materials for doorside pickup online and over the phone.

Although doorside service is slated to begin on July 1, all library branches will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday in observance of Independence Day.

“For everyone this has been a huge challenge as everything changes daily,” said Library Director Judith Tolchin in a statement. “CDC recommendations, staff and municipal concerns about cleaning and safety are all important criteria that not only must be recognized but addressed fully.”

Tolchin says that deliveries of new reading materials began two or three weeks ago, indicating that there would be no shortage of new books for library patrons to check out. She also hopes to expand the library’s presence again and open up remaining branches.

“We hope to start that in the very near future but not before July 6. At that point, the openings are likely only to be at the Headquarters and Eastern Branch facilities at the very beginning.”
