Old Bridge YMCA's Annual Learn To Swim Week Begins June 20

Community outreach program to help children who are non swimmers become more safety conscious around water environments.

Each summer, the media reports heartbreaking stories of children drowning.  According to the CDC, about in in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.  That's why each year since it opened in 2009, the Old Bridge YMCA has offered Learn to Swim Week, a community outreach program for children who are non swimmers.  Children attend a 1/2 hour swim session every day for one week and learn safety around all water environments, i.e., pool, beach, as well as boat safety and the dangers of sun damage.  "No child will learn to swim in five days", says Bridgid Rothenberg, Assistant Aquatics Director of the Old Bridge Y, "but they can learn to be safe around the water and that's our goal."

This year, Learn to Swim Week will be held June 20-24, with registration required in person by June 12.  The cost of the program is $15 per child and is open to non members only.  To register, please visit the Welcome Desk at the Old Bridge YMCA at 1 Mannino Park Drive, Old Bridge, NJ.
