No one wants to spend the summer being embarrassed by their skin. I know the pain that is caused by acne, which started when I was in my early twenties. I've spent years learning how to treat the condition and now I'm sharing that education as a Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Acne Specialist at Envision Acne and Skin Care Center in Manalapan.
With education and the right guidance, everyone is capable of achieving beautiful skin. Through continuous education, experimentation, as well as trial and error, I have found an extremely effective Acne Free Skin Program™ and results-oriented home care protocol that will clear up the skin without the use of prescription medications in 90 days.
To help you have an acne-free summer, my five tips for preventing acne include:

1. Use fragrance-free detergents - A lot of people have sensitivities to artificial fragrances and dyes, which can show up in the form of skin irritation. I recommend using fragrance-free detergents such as Cheer Free, All Free & Clear, Tide Free or Arm & Hammer Free.
2. Be aware of the swimming pool - Some pool disinfectants contain iodides and chlorine, which can cause skin problems for frequent swimmers. Many swimmers find that the combination of hot, humid weather combined with the physical exercise of swimming in chlorinated water can cause major acne flare-ups.

3. Avoid foods containing androgen hormones - Foods high in androgens such as peanut butter, corn oil, wheat germ, shellfish, beef and liver are more likely to increase the severity of acne. I suggest alternatives; for example, switching to almond butter, which is an equally delicious and a healthier alternative to peanut butter.
4. Avoid foods, vitamin supplements and sports drinks/bars containing iodides - The No. 1 food source of iodine is salt. Seafood, fish, seaweed, fast foods and dairy products all contain high iodine levels.
5. Go for the ice - Instead of picking at breakouts, rub ice on pustules and pimples for about two minutes, twice daily. Keep the ice moving; if is sits in one place, you’ll damage your skin further. Ice will bring down the inflammation and, if you treat your breakouts when they are first forming, they’ll most likely go away.
