”Protect Kids not Guns, Assemblyman Clifton”

Mass shootings have become everyday occurrences in America. Gun violence is the #1 killer of American kids. These horrifying realities were uppermost in the minds of local residents when they gathered outside the Matawan offices of NJ District 12 Assemblyman Robert Clifton on Thursday afternoon. With signs, chanting and speeches, they expressed their disappointment with Assemblyman Clifton’s voting record on gun safety and pleaded with him to do more to keep our kids safe.

Assemblyman Clifton’s voting record is one of unwavering commitment to protecting gun owner “rights” and giving them unfettered access to firearms, while glaringly ignoring the rights and needs of the rest of his constituency.

Clifton has voted against simple safety measures such as gun free zones, keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people, background checks and even SAFE STORAGE!

Our society prides itself on its love and concern for children. Most parents’ lives are centered around keeping our kids safe. We are diligent about wearing seatbelts, locking away cleaning solutions with chemicals, and following regulations to ensure that cribs, car seats and toys cause no harm. It is not unreasonable to want the same diligence and regulations to protect kids from gun violence.

It is puzzling that the one thing killing kids the most appears to concern Assemblyman Clifton the least. He has yet to approve a single measure to keep our kids safe.
