Theft at Manalapan Country Club

More than $16,000 was recently stolen from Battleground Country Club in forged checks, according to police.

MANALAPAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Police are investigating an incident of theft at a well-known country club and wedding venue in Manalapan Township. The theft occurred at Battleground Country Club, where police say more than $16,000 was recently stolen from the business in forged checks.

On the morning of Tuesday December 13, the country club reported the fraud to Manalapan police headquarters. A club representative said an unknown person forged a signature and cashed two fraudulent checks from the country club totaling $16,463.54. Additionally, an unknown person forged a check and attempted to have another person deposit it, to use the money to make purchases at retail locations. The investigation is being handled by Patrolman Joseph Defilippis. Police released the theft report in their monthly police blotter.

The general manager of the country club declined to comment or explain anything more about the incident to Patch Wednesday morning, saying it was an ongoing police investigation. Battleground Country Club is located on Covenhoven Road and is a popular venue for weddings, bar mitzvahs and other celebrations.
