Three-Hour Police Standoff at Monroe Township Home Friday

More than 20 law enforcement officers were called for what became a three-hour police standoff at a Monroe Township home Friday morning.

Monroe Township, NJ - More than 20 law enforcement officers from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Response Team were called for what became a three-hour police standoff at a Monroe Township home Friday morning.

The team successfully resolved a potentially dangerous situation by convincing an apparently distraught man to surrender following an incident at the home, the Middlesex County prosecutor's office said. It is unknown exactly what that incident was.

But a woman who was located on a second floor of the home was taken out of the home with a head injury. She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.

Police were called to the home at 9:34 a.m. Friday, and the distraught men eventually surrendered at 12:55 p.m. following negotiations

No charges have been filed, but the man, whose identity is being withheld, is in custody pending the outcome of an investigation.

No shots were fired during the incident and no police officers were injured.

Manalapan police also responded and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department provided a patrol dog.
