Township Committee Honors Manalapan Cheerleading Champs

Manalapan Braves Jr. Midget Novice Cheerleading Squad formally recognized as national champions.

During the Township Committee meeting on Feb. 10, members of the Manalapan Braves Jr. Midget Novice Cheerleading Squad were formally recognized as national champions. Mayor Andrew Lucas presented each member of the squad and their coaches with proclamations celebrating their prestigious victory. On Dec. 8, the squad took first place in the Pop Warner National Cheer Championship held at Disney World in Orlando, FL.

“This was actually the first national championship that we won here in Manalapan, so congratulations,” said Lucas, after he presented the proclamations.

The room was filled with the excitement of the squad, as well as parents and family members, who eagerly took pictures as the girls received their awards.

At the beginning of the meeting, two members of the squad, Jill and Juliana, lead the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

In a humorous moment, Jillian took a bow towards Mayor Lucas after leading the Pledge of Allegiance. She later added that it was an honor to meet him.

“I think that can go down in Manalapan history as the first curtsy that the Mayor has received, so thank you very much,” said Lucas.
