Volunteers Needed For Sexual Assault Response Team In Manalapan

180 Turning Lives Around is a non-profit that provides support and advocacy for victims of sexual violence.

MANALAPAN, NJ — 180's Sexual Assault Response Team is in need of volunteers to join their mission and help victims of domestic violence find the courage and strength to turn their lives around, said the Manalapan Township Police Department.

Volunteer Advocates for 180 are community members who collaborate with law enforcement to provide victims of domestic violence with confidential support, information and resources at police headquarters.

In collaboration with countywide law enforcement and the forensic nurse examiners program, trained volunteers provide emotional support and assistance to victims and their significant others.

180’s volunteers also provide telephone support, which includes, at the time of crisis, addressing medical and emotional needs, information regarding the justice system and referrals for services.

They also provide support and advocacy for the survivor’s significant other and adult survivors of childhood sexual assault.

Mandatory training runs from June 7 to June 30 and takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Weeks 1 and 4 are held in person at Bethany Commons, 1 Bethany Road in Hazlet. Weeks 2 and 3 are remote via Zoom.

All applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver's license, be willing to work on an on-call shift basis, submit to background investigations and fingerprinting and successfully complete the mandatory 40-hour training. Prior knowledge of or training in sexual violence is not required.
