MANALAPAN, NJ - A road rage incident that started in the Freehold Mall parking lot Friday night ended with a woman hitting another woman in the face in Manalapan, police said.

The road rage encounter started between two cars in Freehold Township, police said. At 9:20 p.m. Friday, Manalapan police were called to the Gulf gas station on Rt. 9 in Manalapan. There, a 49-year-old Staten Island woman told police that another woman struck her in the face.

The incident apparently began in the parking lot of the Freehold Mall, and continued up Rt. 9 north, Captain Thomas Barstow said. The first car kept cutting off and brake checking the Staten Island woman and her driving companion, so they pulled off Rt. 9 into the Gulf station parking lot, he said. The subject then pulled in behind them and a minor physical altercation occurred, he said.
