MANASQUAN, NJ — A married couple from Manasquan stole $8 million from a trucking company where the man worked, said Union County Prosecutor William Daniel.
The company is R. Roman Truck Leasing, Inc., located in Elizabeth, said the prosecutor. Alejandro Garcia, 49, of Manasquan, worked there for 27 years.
In September 2025, the company contacted the Union County Prosecutor, alleging that Garcia diverted $2.5 million to himself over a five-year period.
Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Jessica Tattoli launched an investigation.
Evidence she uncovered revealed Garcia stole approximately $8 million from the business, said the prosecutor. Police say he set up a shadow company called "Roman Truck Leasing Co. of NJ," and laundered the money through that shell company.
He was able to do this for years and stole millions before being caught, said the prosecutor.
Detectives say he used unauthorized checks, cash withdrawals and stole payments to other employees to finance a lavish lifestyle for himself and his family.
Garcia turned himself in to the Union County Prosecutor's office on April 21. He is charged with first-degree money laundering, multiple counts of second-degree theft, credit card fraud and conspiracy to commit theft.
His wife, Sandra Garcia, 51, of Manasquan, is charged with second-degree theft and second-degree.
A woman who worked for them, Rosemarie Ritacco, 46, of Nutley, is also charged with second-degree theft, third-degree theft and second-degree conspiracy to commit theft.
The two women were released on a summons to appear in court June 4.
Garcia is currently held at the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
