Belmar Mayor Turns Down Top MVC Job

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty announced this week that he has turned down a top position at the Motor Vehicle Commission.

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty announced this week that he has turned down a top position at the Motor Vehicle Commission.

During the Tuesday council meeting, Doherty said addressed what he called"a little rumor" that Gov. Phil Murphy offered him the position of chief administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission.

"That is true and I have respectfully declined that offer," Doherty said with offering an explanation.

Doherty, who has worked as a financial advisor, earned a masters degree in public policy from Georgetown University. He served two terms on Belmar council starting in 2006 before being elected mayor.
