Bicycle Robber Went On Stealing Spree Before Caught In Belmar

A man busted after robbing a bank on his bicycle now is facing several robbery charges.

A Brick man busted after robbing a bank on his bicycle now is facing robbery charges for his role in multiple bank robberies, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

David Mitchell, 31, is charged with second degree robbery in connection with the heist of the Ocean First Bank in Spring Lake Heights on Monday, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

At the time, a search was underway for Mitchell after he was charged with another second degree count of robbery in connection with a heist at the TD Bank in Point Pleasant Boro on Sunday, according to the MCPO. Read more: Cops Bust Brick Bicycle Suspect In Point Boro Bank Robbery

The suspect was caught after the Spring Lake Heights Police Department responded to a panic alarm from the Ocean First Bank at 2401 State Highway 71 at approximately 3:55 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to the MCPO.

Mitchell was apprehended by Neptune City Police Officer Mark Mazzeo in Belmar a short time later. Officer Mazzeo was returning from a training session and driving through Belmar when he heard the call and responded.

Sgt. Michael Matunas from the Spring Lake Heights Police Department and Detective Adam Hess of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office handled the investigation.
