MANASQUAN – Christmas came early as Santa’s elves, disguised as members of the Manasquan Board Riders Club, stopped by Squad 27-21 last week to make a big donation.

On Friday, MBRC president Larry Schmidt, joined by a half dozen veteran watermen, presented Manasquan First Aid Squad president-elect John O’Grady with an oversized check for $2,000.

“This donation is important to us,” said Andy Mills, who will be sworn in as MFAS captain Jan. 1. “We obviously appreciate the financial support, but also embrace MBRC’s mission to promote a safe surfing environment at our beaches.”

MBRC members are responsible for numerous rescues and preventative actions each year during the critical time between when an emergency unfolds until first responders arrive on scene, Mills explained.

In 2020, MFAS will offer CPR and basic first aid training to MBRC and other community groups, he said. “Hopefully, we can get some of these guys and gals to join our squad.”

The $2,000 will be spent on first aid equipment and supplies, O’Grady said.

The MBRC is a registered 501c3 club that welcomes tax-deductible sponsorships to continue making donations like this. For more information, please email infombrc@gmail.com.
