Hot, hot, hot, with a moderate risk of rip currents

The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies with a heat index of around 100 degrees.

Thunderstorms are possible, especially late this afternoon and evening. High temperatures will in the lower 90s. Beach winds will be from the south to southwest winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour, increasing to 15 to 20 miles per hour this afternoon.

Expect rough surf today, with waves between three to four feet, and south swells of two to three feet. The water temperature will in the upper 70s. There's a moderate risk of rip currents forecast for today, which means wind and/or wave conditions can support stronger or more frequent rip currents.

Always have a flotation device with when you are in the water and swim only in guarded areas. Discuss any possible surf zone hazards with the guards.The lightning threat for today is low, which means there is little chance of thunderstorms. The UV index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high.

Low tide at Belmar arrived at 8:53 a.m. High tide will roll in at 3:13 p.m., followed by another low tide at 9:46 p.m.
