Coastal Monmouth County Beach Weather Report For Aug. 15, 2016

Slightly cooler temperatures, a low risk of rip currents forecast for today.

A bit of a breather.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 80s.

Beach winds will be from the northwest around five miles per hour, becoming west in the afternoon.The surf will be around two feet, with south swells about two feet in the morning, becoming light later. The ocean water temperature is 77 degrees.

The rip current risk is low today. But strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and elsewhere, especially during low tide. Swim only in guarded areas and discuss any possible surf zone hazards with them.

The lightning threat today is low, which means there is little change of thunderstorms. The UV index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high, so slather on the sunscreen.

High tide at Belmar was at 5:30 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 11:30 a.m. Another high tide will occur at 5:52 p.m.
