Coastal Monmouth County Beach Weather Report For Aug. 18, 2016

Showers and isolated thunderstorms on the way.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies today with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The temperature has cooled down considerably compared to the last week, with highs only in the lower 80s. Beach winds will be from the east at five to 10 miles per hour.

The surf height has also dropped considerably from four feet yesterday to two feet today. South swells will be around two feet. The ocean water temperature is 77 degrees.

There's a low risk of rip currents. But strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas, especially during low tide. Swim only in guarded areas and discuss any possible surf zone hazards with the guards.

The lightning threat is low, which means there is little chance of thunderstorms. The UV index is an 8, which the NWS considers high.

High tide at Belmar occurred at 7:47 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 1:55 p.m., followed by another high tide at 8:04 p.m.
