Coastal Monmouth County Beach Weather Report For Aug. 20, 2016

A decent beach day on the way, ocean water temperature is 79 degrees.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms today.

The highs will be in the lower 80s. Beach winds will be from the east at five to 10 miles per hour. The ocean water temperature is 78 degrees.

Waves will be from two to three feet high, with southeast swells around two feet. The rip current risk is low, but strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas, especially during low tide. Swim only in guarded areas and discuss any possible surf zone hazards with the lifeguards.

The lightning threat is moderate, which means thunderstorms are possible. The UV index is an 8, which the NWS considers high.

High tide at Belmar came in at 9:16 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 3:30 p.m., followed by another high tide at 9:36 p.m.
