Craig Michael Reed Of Belmar Dies At 61

A Memorial Gathering is planned for Saturday.

Craig Michael Reed, 61, of Belmar, beloved son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend, passed away on April 15 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Craig was born in Newark and moved to South Belmar as a child. He was a graduate of Saint Rose Grammar School and High School, where he was a natural athlete. He was a member of the Saint Rose High School varsity basketball team, baseball team and the future Hall of fame cross-country team.

Craig worked as a bartender at the Spring Lake Golf Club for many years. Craig’s life work was helping people achieve and maintain their sobriety. He was a friend of Bill W and was an active participant in the sponsorship and meetings. He was proud of his 30 years of sobriety. He was a Belmartian and loved his family, the beach and Bruce Springsteen.

Craig is predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Ann Reed and his brother James Craig Reed. He is survived by his brother Clarence Reed and his wife Marie, his brother Marc and his wife Kate, all of Spring Lake, his brother John and his wife Carole, his sister Kelli O’Keefe and her husband Robert all of Wall Township. He leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Marie Elizabeth Reed, Clarence Reed III and Shannon Louiselle, Marc and Jennifer Reed, Kacey and Justin Roy, Beth Reed and her fiance’ Scott Carpenter, John Reed Jr., Bob Reed, Rachel Reed, Kerri O’Keefe, Daniel O’Keefe and his man Jack Reed O’keefe. He is also survived by many much loved cousins and his extended family at the Shoralan Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday April 18, at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street Belmar NJ. Donations in Craig’s name to the Shoralan Club 1001 Ocean Ave. Belmar would be greatly appreciated.
