Donation Exercise Class to Benefit "Give A Kid A Dream"

The Fieldhouse at The Atlantic Club Will Host A Post-Thanksgiving Workout To Raise Funds For At-Risk Youth. Open to the Public.

Manasquan, NJ (November 24, 2018) -- Burn the bird and sweat out the stuffing for a great cause with an ultimate, super circuit workout hosted by The Atlantic Club in Manasquan and Jackie Atkins of Gleason’s Gym in Long Branch. Participants are encouraged to make a $20 donation upon registration, with all proceeds donated to New Jersey “Give a Kid a Dream” (NJGAKAD). Gleason’s “Give a Kid a Dream” non-profit was established in 1991 and provides mentorship to disadvantaged youths through the mental and physical sport of boxing. Participants receive a membership to the boxing gym, basic equipment, a boxing trainer, and are required to attend tutoring as part of their training.

“It’s more than boxing,” says Ms. Atkins, ”Often when an athlete stands in front of a bag, especially some of my kids that are dealing with anger issues and have experienced violence in their life, and they see that bag as a way to just let go of all of the suffering, all of the pain. It’s just so much more to me than boxing.”

Gleason’s Trainers volunteer their time or offer significantly reduced training rates in order to accommodate participants. In earlier years, Ms. Atkins personally funded the program with her salary from her career with Bell Labs. Ms. Atkins has since retired, focusing on NJGAKAD full time, “Now we rely on fundraising. We rely on those donations to keep the doors open and to grow the program.”

Ms. Atkins most recently worked with The Atlantic Club to develop programming for their FITBOX studio classes at The Fieldhouse. The super circuit workout will be lead by The Fieldhouse’s Certified Personal Trainers and include boxing, TRX, kettlebells, and more. Two class times are available on Saturday, November 24th at 9:00am and 10:30am. Each class has a 32 person capacity.

“For us, it has always been important to give back to the community,” says Mike Murphy, Manager at The Fieldhouse, “NJGAKAD leverages sport and fitness to provide kids right here in our area with solid foundations, guidance, and a chance at a better future, so it’s a perfect pairing for us.”
