Elizabeth 'Joan' Loud Of Manasquan Dies At 84

Services slated for Friday and Saturday.

Elizabeth “Joan” Loud, Manasquan, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at Ocean Medical Center on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, four days after suffering a stroke.

Joan was born on Feb. 3, 1931, in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Trygve and Thora Pettersen. She grew up in Hollis, Queens. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and attended Queens College.

Joan worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where she met her husband, Edward J. Loud, whom she married in 1958. Joan later worked for the New York office of the Canadian department store chain Simpson’s. Joan and Ed moved to Aberdeen Township in 1963, where they were one of the original families in the Strathmore development, and raised their three children. Joan was a founding member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.

After raising her children, Joan returned to the work force as the secretary for the math department at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. Joan and Ed moved to Four Seasons at Wall in 1998, where they enjoyed their retirement filled with world travel, parks trips across the USA, and time spent with family and friends. Joan was active in the Pride of Wall and various clubs at Four Seasons. She was a congregant at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan. Like her mother before her, Joan loved gardening.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ed of Wall; son, Edward (Ted) of Washington, DC; son, Timothy and daughter-in-law Adrienne of Brooklyn; daughter, Elizabeth Loud-Hayward and son-in-law Chris Hayward of Aberdeen; four grandsons, Daniel and Nicholas Loud and Colin and Griffin Hayward; and her cherished nieces and nephews, extended family, and many dear friends and neighbors who will miss her warmth, generosity of spirit, friendship, kindness and love.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 1 at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A funeral service will be held 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 6 Osborn Ave., Manasquan. Interment to follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
