NJ Weather: Midweek Storm Could Cause Rain, Rough Surf
A potential tropical storm could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and other coastal hazards midweek, according to forecasters.

As Harvey churns over Texas, causing flooding of historic proportions, forecasters along the East Coast have their eyes on another storm. The storm, now known as Potential Tropical Cyclone 10, has formed near Florida and could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and other coastal hazards midweek, according to forecasters.
The storm, which is expected to cause heavy rain in Florida on Monday, could strengthen along the Georgia coastline early this week. If it intensifies to tropical storm strength, it will be named Irma.
The storm is expected to pass off the coast of New Jersey Tuesday or Wednesday and could cause rough surf and increased rip currents, Accuweather says.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the coastal counties in New Jersey, saying, "there is a chance some areas could approach minor coastal flooding levels with the Tuesday afternoon or overnight high tide cycle."
There is a possibility of minor beach erosion and high surf again on Tuesday, the NWS said.

The good news: It does not look like wind and rain from the storm will stick around long enough to impact Labor Day plans, according to information from Accuweather.
“Regardless of its development, the storm will likely be pulled out to sea,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio.
Meanwhile, Gov. Chris Christie announced Sunday that NJ Task Force 1 has been activated and will be deploying to Texas to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey.
“During Superstorm Sandy, emergency and law enforcement response contingents from around the country came to our aid. New Jersey stands ready to assist Texas with their search and rescue response to the destruction and devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey and the recovery process begins,” Christie said in a statement.
