July Ends Calmer Than It Began for Belmar PD

Summonses issued by borough police drop significantly

Belmar police during the second-half of July issued far fewer summonses and made significantly less arrests than they did the first-half of the month, authorities said. 

Total ordinance summonses -- for offenses such as noise, housing, alcohol and other violations -- dropped to 298 during the two-week period of July 16 to July 29 from 416 summonses issued between July 2 and July 15, according to a release from borough police. 

During the same period, arrests dropped to 24 from 40; motor vehicle accidents decreased to 28 from 42; and parking tickets issued fell to 591 from 741.

The only exception was with housing violations, which increased dramatically to 101 from just 31 reported the first half of July. 

But overall, Belmar had its quietest two weeks since the first half of June, when just 215 ordinance summonses and 443 parking tickets were issued.

So far this summer, the period of was the busiest two weeks of the season reported by police.
