Leggett's Reopens March 1

The art deco neon is lit, the wide screen televisions are blaring and the dart board is ready. Leggett's Sand Bar will mark its reopening after the storm surge of Hurricane Sandy shuttered the landmark Manasquan bar for four months.

Today's reopening of the First Avenue bar brings life to a battered block, which saw high ocean waters push beachfront sand into homes and businesses blocks from the boardwalk.

Leggett's is ready for a noon opening and lines are expected to form beforehand. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will feature local officials such as Mayor George Dempsey and Assemblyman Dave Rible, who will be reading a proclamation before the opening. 

Opening day entertainment includes Turnpike Mike at Happy Hour, 5 p.m., and The E Street Shuffle at 10 p.m.

The full menu Leggett's patrons know is back completely, including the brick oven pizza. The familar staff has returned, and the bar announced a welcoming message on its facebook page:

"We can't stress enough how much we miss and love all of you, after all, it is you that makes our place so special to the community. The music you all love will be playing all day and into the night. Turnpike Mike will be rocking our happy hour at 5pm and The E Street Shuffle starts at 10pm! We are happy to be serving you once again and look forward to seeing all you tomorrow, and days to follow. The bartenders, Gerry & the kitchen staff, wait staff, and floormen are excited to be back working and serving you."

Next week will mark the return of several leagues the bar hosts: shuffleboards, darts and bingo leagues will start Friday March, 7 with the return of “Leggett’s Bud Bingo.”
