More Than 2K Still Without Power In Manasquan And Belmar (UPDATE)

JCP&L says power may not be restored for days. Gas stations reportedly lost power. Find out where you can get water and ice.

More than 2,000 people were still without power in Manasquan and Belmar on Tuesday afternoon after rough storms passed through the region.

Manasquan had 1,623 outages as of 8:30 p.m. and Belmar had 959.

Gas stations in the area were reportedly closed because of the power outages.

Officials reported that JCP&L is aware of the power outages and it is currently in the process of restoring power. The estimated time to have power restored was 3 to 4 hours but officials are now saying it could be days.

Manasquan officials have participated in multiple calls with JCP&L and Monmouth County Emergency Management. As reported earlier, 40 to 50 percent of Monmouth County remains without power.

This included 98 percent of Manasquan’s customers at 12 noon, but that number was down to 39 percnt by 8:30 p.m. JCP&L has crews are working in the area. There is extensive repair work and each circuit is being checked prior to re-energizing.

  • If you need assistance, call 911 or Manasquan Police at (732) 223-1000.
  • Report all outages to JCP&L at (888) 544-4877 or text OUT to 544487. Restoration updates will be provided via municipal OEM channels.
  • The Manasquan First Aid Squad on Broad Street will be providing a charging station and filling of oxygen cylinders from 12 noon through 9 pm (hours may be extended if needed).
  • All of the traffic lights are down in the area. Please leave early and allow extra travel time due to the traffic problems. Do not rush and be patient as law enforcement officers are present at major intersections.
  • If you are a critical or special needs resident, please contact Manasquan Police at (732) 223-1000 or stop by Borough Hall and ensure you are on our critical care registry.
  • Manasquan Fire Department has been busy responding to many alarms caused by backup batteries being low or dead. Please ensure you have a fresh set of batteries in all of your smoke, CO and natural gas detectors.
  • If you are using a generator, please use caution and follow the safety guidelines below.

The Belmar and Lake Como Emergency operation center, meanwhile, has been activated, which includes additional law enforcement and Department of Public works employees.

The traffic lights are out on Main Street and Highway 35. If you are traveling please do so with caution. Many of the fallen trees have already been removed from the roadway by the Department of Public works.

If you are using a generator, please do so with caution, placing the generator outside and away from any from any residence and widows.

If you have an emergency, please dial 911 or the Belmar Police Department at 732-681-1700.

  • Foodtown, 1562 Route 35 Ocean

Firefighters also ran numerous calls through the Point Pleasant Beach area.
