Man Struck, Killed By NJ Transit Train In Monmouth County

The fatal crash happened over the weekend.

A 21-year-old man was killed after being struck by a NJ Transit train in Monmouth County, according to a spokesman.

The man was fatally struck by a train at 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Bridgewaters Drive in Oceanport, Jim Smith, a spokesman for NJ Transit, told Patch.

Jake A. Monteiro, 21, of Oceanport was identified as the victim. This remains an active investigation

Twenty passengers and crew members were aboard the North Jersey Coastline train #7201, which had left New York and was headed for Long Branch, Smith said. No one aboard the train was injured.

The person was struck on the tracks when the train was between the Little Silver and Monmouth Park, Smith said.

The service was temporarily suspended. The incident is under investigation.
