Details In Fatal Crash That Closed Route 71 In Manasquan

Bayville man in fatal crash that happened on an N.J. highway on Wednesday involving a garbage truck, according to authorities.

A fatal accident closed part of a New Jersey highway at the Jersey shore on Wednesday, according to authorities.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said a 78-year-old woman was killed after she was heading south in a 2013 Volvo on Route 71.

The car crossed the center line of the road and ran into the northbound lane, where it collided into a garbage truck driven by a 44-year-old man from Berkeley Township, according to The Asbury Park Press. The driver of the Volvo was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the truck wasn't injured.

Neither person was identified as of press time.

Route 71 was closed from Sea Girt Avenue to Stockton Lake Avenue in Manasquan around 1 p.m., according to state transportation officials.

The Monmouth County SCART Team (Serious Collision Analysis Response Team), which responds to fatal and serious motor vehicle accidents in Monmouth County, responded to the scene, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The team is comprised of officers from various municipalities as well as members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office who are specially trained in accident reconstruction.
