Russell F. Howland Jr. Of Manasquan Dies At 47

Visitation scheduled for Friday, burial at Brig. Gen William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday.

Russell F. Howland, Jr. 47, of Manasquan, passed away on Jan. 19, 2015 at Ocean County Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A graduate of Wall High School, Russ proudly served his country, attached to the 10th Mountaineers in the United States Army, with deployment to Somalia and Haiti. He continued his service in the National Guard.

In his youth Russ developed a deep interest in trains and joined the Railroad Club at Allaire State Park in Wall. He was employed there for one summer driving the steam locomotive. His love of trains led to his favorite job, as an Assistant Foreman for New Jersey Transit.

Russ loved the outdoors, fishing and hiking and greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid New York Giants fan. His best friend was his son, Christopher, of whom he was very proud.

Russ was predeceased by his first born son Russell F., III. He is survived by his son Christopher Howland, his parents Eileen and Russ Howland, Sr. all of Manasquan; his siblings Robert Howland and his wife Jessica of Hamilton Township, his brother Eric of Manasquan and nephews Zachary and Jake Howland. Russ is also survived by his wife Barbara Howland of Dingmans Ferry, PA.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, Jan. 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road in Manasquan. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
