Sailboat Caught In Power Lines Causes Outages In Belmar

A sailboat that got caught in power lines prompted outages during the blizzard Saturday in Belmar, Mayor Matt Doherty said.

A sailboat that got caught in power lines on Belmar Blvd prompted outages during the blizzard Saturday, Mayor Matt Doherty said.

The mayor shared this photo on Twitter, saying “JCPL removing the mast of a sailboat caught in their lines that caused power outages in Belmar. Can’t make this up.”

The photo was taken by Wall Police Chief Robert Brice and is also attached to this post with permission.

Video (below) of the effort to remove the mast was provided by Wall Township Police Sgt. Joseph Wilbert, who praised the JCP&L crew’s work: “JCP&L continues to do an outstanding job.” Wilbert provided an additional photo as well.
