BELMAR, NJ — A amateur photographer captured photos and video of a surfer rescuing a deer caught in the surf Sunday morning off Belmar:

This happened around 7 a.m. Sunday on the beach at 15th Avenue, according to News 12.

The photographer, Adrienne Tully, said she and a small crowd of onlookers watched as the deer swam out into the ocean.

The deer was able to climb onto the jetty twice, she told Patch, but the animal was unable to make it back to the beach.

That's when an unnamed surfer paddled over, somehow got ahold of the deer and swam with it back to the beach, while he remained on his board.

"From my perspective, he guided it to the sand," Tully said.

The surfer has not been identified, but Tully said she would love to know who he is so he can be publicly thanked. See the photos and video Tully shared to News 12.
