3 Swimmers Rescued From Harry Wright Lake In Manchester: Police

One of the swimmers was pulled from beneath the surface of the water; the 3 swimmers had been trying to swim across the lake, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Two people were taken to the hospital after three people were rescued from Harry Wright Lake Monday afternoon, Manchester police said.

First responders were called to the lake about 4:15 p.m. for a report of a missing swimmer and learned three male swimmers had been trying to swim from one side of the lake to the other when all three developed fatigue, Capt. Vincent Manco said.

Manco did not say whether the swimmers were adults or juveniles.

Two of the swimmers had been helped to shore by good Samaritans, Manco said, and one of them was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River.

The third swimmer was rescued from beneath the surface by members of the members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department and Manchester Career Fire Department. Personnel began performing lifesaving measures on him, and he was taken to Community Medical Center by Manchester EMS and paramedics from RWJ Barnabas.

Manco said the incident is being investigated by Manchester Detective Victoria Guarino and additional information would be released as it becomes available.

The Manchester Police Department Patrol Bureau, Investigations Bureau, Manchester Career Fire, Manchester EMS, Whiting Volunteer Fire, Manchester Volunteer Fire, and RWJ paramedics responded, Manco said.
