4 Injured In Route 70 Crash In Manchester: Police

The preliminary investigation shows a Honda turning left from Route 70 pulled into the path of an oncoming Subaru, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Four Manchester residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash that partially closed Route 70 at Route 571 on Tuesday evening, Manchester police said Thursday.

Justina Tobacco, 77, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune because she appeared to have suffered a head injury in the crash, Manchester Capt. Vincent Manco said.

Dominic Tobacco, 79; Charles Jannetti, 74, and Janet Jannetti, 72, all were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River because to be examined due to complaints of pain, Manco said.

Dominic Tobacco was driving east on Route 70 in a 2021 Honda Accord about 6:30 p.m. and was making a left turn onto Route 571 when he pulled into the path of a 2022 Subaru Outback driven by Charles Jannetti, who was driving west on Route 70, Manco said.

The Subaru hit the passenger side of the Honda, causing it to rotate about 45 degrees before coming to a stop facing east in the intersection. After impact, the Subaru kept going west before it came to a stop facing west in the eastbound turn lane of Route 70, Manco said.

Manco said Patrolman Conner Yatauro is investigating the crash, but the preliminary finding is that failure to yield to oncoming traffic appears to be the contributing factor.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company and Manchester Volunteer Fire Company.
