Airman Killed In New York Subway Accident ID'd By Joint Base

Breaking: The man, who was stationed at McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, was from Texas.

NEW YORK, NY — An airman stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst who died Sunday in a subway accident in New York City has been identified as a 25-year-old from Texas, base officials said.

Airman 1st Class Montiel Alleyne, 25, of San Antonio, Texas, was serving with the Air Force as an aerial port apprentice. He was assigned to the 621st Contingency Response Squadron, base officials said.

"We mourn the loss of A1C Alleyne, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," said Lt Col. Richard Kind, 621st CRS commander. "Tragedies like this are felt across the entire squadron, and he will be greatly missed by his fellow airmen and teammates."

Alleyne died after being struck by a Manhattan subway train April 23. A New York Police Department spokesman told the Patch the accident happened about 4:40 a.m. at the Union Square station. The motorman reportedly saw someone trying to cross the tracks and tried to put on the brakes but was unable to stop the train in time.

Alleyne was pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD spokesman said.

The accident remains under investigation, base officials said.
