MANCHESTER, NJ — One person was taken to the hospital on Thursday after a garbage truck driver took a turn too fast and lost control, resulting in the truck rolling over into a Ford F-150 on Route 70, Manchester police said.

Harrie Garris, 58, of Toms River, was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Capt. Albert Vega said.

Garris was a passenger in the grey 2004 Mack garbage truck driven by Marquis Dove, 28, of Plainsboro, Vega said.

Vega said police determined Dove was driving east on Route 70 at a high rate of speed when he neared the entrance to the Ocean County Landfill at 2498 Route 70, and braked to try to turn into the landfill but lost control.

The garbage truck rolled over onto its driver's side and hit the F-150 that was sitting at the traffic light on Green Acres Road waiting to leave the landfill, Vega said.

The Ford was operated by 30-year-old Bryan Bollhardt, 30, of Forked River, was injured but did not ask to be taken to the hospital for treatment, Vega said. His passenger, Richard Bollhardt, 65, of Forked River, was not injured.

Dove was injured but also did not seek treatment the hospital, Vega said.

Patrolman Brendan Brush is investigating the crash, Vega said, and the preliminary determination is that unsafe speed was the primary contributing factor.

Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians and firefighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, Hatzolah, Taylor’s Towing, and Priced Rite Towing.
