MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman was injured Wednesday evening when she was trapped in her vehicle after a crash on Route 539, Manchester police said.
Cathy Stone, 73, of the Whiting section, was driving a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross south on Route 539 about 5:45 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the road in the area of New Mexico Drive, Capt. Albert Vega said.
The Mitsubishi hit a utility pole and a wooden fence then turned over, trapping Stone in the vehicle, he said.
Stone, who was wearing her seat belt, had to be extricated and then was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, for treatment of numerous non-life-threatening injuries, Vega said. She was listed as stable on Thursday, he said.
Assisting at the scene were members of Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, members from the Whiting Fire Company, Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst Fire Department, Forked River Fire Department, and Accurate Towing, Vega said.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Keith Douglas and Patrolman Brenden Brush of the Traffic Safety Unit. Failure to maintain lane is believed to be the primary contributing factor to the crash, Vega said.
