Ask the Optician-Your optical questions answered by Joel C. Wolf, Licensed Optician & Owner of Village Opticians

What are your options if your eye doctor is leaving Whiting? This and other related questions addressed in this article.

“Help! My eye doctor recently told me that he “will no longer be seeing patients in Whiting and my next scheduled appointment will be in Toms River”! Can I still get my eyeglasses from you, here in town at Village Opticians?”

YES!! Absolutely! It will continue to be just as seamless and easy for you to get the service and quality that you come to Village Opticians for. You do not need to get your eyeglasses at the same location you get your eyes examined at. Let me repeat that, You do not need to get your eyeglasses at the same location you get your eyes examined at. We can take care of your eyeglass needs no matter where you choose to have your eyes examined. We can take your prescription from a written Rx or we can call your eye doctors office for you to get your current prescription.

“Do I have to get my eyeglasses from my eye doctors office?”

NO. You have the legal right to bring your eyeglass prescription to the independent Optician of YOUR CHOICE. You should always leave your annual eye exam with a written prescription. It is your right to have it and your doctor’s obligation to give it to you. But even if, for whatever reason, you don’t have the prescription in hand we can still make your eyeglasses with your new prescription. We can get your newest prescription from your eye doctor, simply by calling and requesting it. You are never under any obligation to get your new prescription (or any other eyeglasses) from your eye doctor’s office.

“Do I need to wait for my routine eye exam to get new eyeglasses?”

No, you do not. There are many instances, besides your exam, that would require a visit to your Optician. Discomfort with your current eyeglasses, changes in the clarity of your vision when you are reading or doing computer work, problems with glare while driving or computing, discomfort while outside on a sunny day, bothersome scratches on your lenses, “crooked” frames, the desire for a different style frame, any of these things should bring you right to your Optician. Your Optician can help with them all. He or she will fix what they can and they can offer you advise on any issue that might require a visit to your doctor.

“I can’t travel outside of Whiting for my routine eye exam, what are my options?”

Call our office, we have local options for you and we will help you to determine what is the best fit for you taking into consideration your insurance and your current eyecare needs.

I hope I’ve provided you with some guidance to help you understand the choices you have.
