Bicyclist, Handlebar-Riding Passenger Injured In Manchester Crash: Police
Neither man was wearing protective gear when the bicycle was hit from behind by a minivan, police said.
MANCHESTER, NJ — Two men were injured Tuesday night when the bicycle they were riding was hit from behind by a minivan on Commonwealth Boulevard near Bismark Street, Manchester police said Wednesday.
Christopher M. Kenny, 45, of Manchester, was riding a Trek road bicycle in the eastbound lane of Commonwealth shortly before 9 p.m. with Nathaniel E. Rodgers, 40, of Lakehurst, riding on the handlebars, Capt. Todd Malland said.
As they were riding along, a 2014 Toyota Sienna driven by Douglas J. Moore, 61, of Manchester, hit the bike's rear tire, Malland said. The impact threw both men from the bike, he said.

Kenny suffered lacerations to the back of his head and left calf while Rodgers reported discomfort, including a headache and dizziness, as well as pain in his right arm, Malland said. Neither man was wearing any safety gear at the time of the crash, he said. Both were taken to Community Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of their injuries, Malland said.
Moore was not injured during the collision, he said.

Assisting at the scene were the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau and EMTs from Manchester First Aid and Quality Medical Transport.
The crash remains under investigation by Cpl. Douglas Higgins of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Section with the assistance of Patrolman Vincent DeRome.
