Broken Government

The financial woes of shutting down and not paying our existing debt are but symptoms of a much greater government disaster. You and I can't put as much money in our mouths as plutocrats can.

The Digital Age is a mixed blessing. It gives a voice to many more people than ever before in the lead up to an election. There is a down side to mass- communicating. “Tweets bounce around echo chambers and fill the Internet.

A hundred thousand tweets can be considered the voice of a hundred thousand supporters. But, a hundred thousand tweets can actually be only a few people with an awful lot of time on their hands.

Servers full of emails can represent the brilliant thoughts of many people. Or are they the connivance of a highly paid publicist “Cut and Pasted” by a multitude of unthinking zealots? Lies repeated often enough, often become legends.

The Golden Rule should not mean that those who have the most money make all the rules.   Freedom of Speech means that each individual in a society has a right to speak its mind. People even have a right to say something stupid, as long as it causes no harm to another. Freedom of speech does not mean that those with the most money should be able to build a humongous megaphone for the sole purpose of shouting down individual American Citizens.

Gerrymandering has always been wrong. Who will admit to deliberately stacking the deck in an election? Scallywags, Mugwumps, Charlatans!

It is an atrocity when the Digital Age joins up with a perversion of the Golden Rule to Gerrymander the U.S Government into paralysis.
